Questions Answers
1 My questions refer to the Grading Summary provided on Sheet
B8.
Under Roadway Exc does the volume include stripping topsoil?
At what depth?
Yes, 4 inch depth
Is Roadway Exc essentially the cut from Original Ground to the
Subgrade?
Yes
Under Various Backfill Material Generated Onsite, does this include embanking topsoilon excavated and fill slopes.
No
Under Various Backfill Material Generated Onsite, note 3, it explains that this includes backfill for pavement and gravel removal under fill, what does this mean?
Additional backfill is needed to account for removal of existing pavement and gravel roadway surface
What shrink factor did you use for embankment?
0.93 See geotech report
It appears the FHWA assumed the use of RSS backfill from onsite excavated material. Can you confirm.
Yes, although the material must still conform to 704.09
The FHWA Grading Summary implies a balanced site. If the quantities are wrong and we need import will this be considered a change?
Import material is not anticipated. Import material required as a result of the contractors means and methods will not be considered a change.
Going through the updated bid schedule the only change that I noticed was the removal of the Embankment Construction
(Reinforced Soil Slope) – 23,000 CY. Is this work and material quantity now part of the Roadway Excavation?
Is it anticipated that this material will be generated in the
Roadway Excavation and if so will the material be required to meet the Slope Fill Specification 704.09?
