Questions and Answers during Advertisement for CO FLAP DEN56(1) Access Connections to ROAR
October 28, 2019
Questions Answers 1 It states in the Steel Structures Specification that the manufacturer is to provide bridge railing configuration as shown in the plans.
However, the plans show for horizontal railing in the elevations and vertical pickets in the cross section. What is the railing configuration of the bridge? What is the railing/picket spacing to be? Is the configuration to resemble the approach railing?
For the hand railing layout, the bridge section sheet shows 3.5’ height to the hand railing and a 6” toe plate that need to be met. Provide vertical pickets. Picket or railing spacing are up to the manufacturer to decide, but need to comply with AASHTO Standards.
2 The material designated for the top rail and pickets (HSS 2x1x1/8) from the approach railing for the four (4) prefabricated pedestrian bridges is not available in weathering steel (ASTM A847). See sheet S39 for reference. Can the supplier of railing designate appropriate sizes based on material available in A847?
Please refer to Amendment A002, and amended Sheet S39.
