OR DOT 224(1)

Clackamus Highway Pavement Restoration

# General Technical Question Answer Date

1 X

The bid item 61701‐4550 is calling for type 2 class A wood post guardrail, but sheet F.1 in the plans there is a safety features quantity box that refers you to ODOT Type 3 guardrail. Just looking for some clarification on to which type of guardrail you are expecting.

The Type 2, Class A designation shown in the bid item provides material requirements specified under Section 617, and the reference to Type 3 in the Plans is a reference to the type of installation required.

We received your response on our questions regarding the new guardrail installation. We want to make sure we are all on the same page here. The federal highway website doesn’t show anything for MGS guardrail as called for on this project. It appears you have a hybrid set of drawings that use some Federal plans and some ODOT plans. To clarify our questions regarding what you are calling out on plan sheet F.1 in the remarks column you indicate ODOT type 3 rail.

ODOT type 3 rail is different that ODOT’s 31” MGS 2A rail. Type 3 rail is double thick 12 gauge rail panels with 8x8 posts on 3’‐1&1/2” centers.

The 31” 2A MGS rail is single thick 12 gauge rail with the posts being 6x8 on 6’‐3” centers. The splices of the rail would fall mid post. “See ODOT drawings RD 480 under headings guardrail and assembly detail.” Let us know what you want here.

Guardrail clarifications will be made under a forthcoming amendment.

The plans also indicate some longer posts may need to be used due to the slope of the shoulder. Do you anticipate any? If so how many? Is this a different pay item?

No longer posts are anticipated. 6/22/18

4 X You also do not show any buried utilities in plans or overhead power, are there any conflicts? Will these be located?

Utility conflicts may exist. Locate existing utilities according to Subsection 107.02.

5 X

One additional concern we have, is you are asking for the project to be completed by 10/29/2018, but you also indicate a notice to proceed may not happen until September 2018.

That does not allow much time to complete the project. Does DOT have any room to extend the contract for another month?

No. 6/22/18

6 X Would the FHWA consider any value engineering changes to the scope of this project?

Submit a written description of the value engineering change proposal concept after contract award according to Subsection 103.03.

6/22/18

7 X Is the aggregate for roadway aggerate, shoulder finishing incidental to this item?

Yes. 7/3/18

8 X

If the aggregate for roadway aggregate, shoulder finishing is incidental to this pay item, how wide will the shoulders be to determine a rock quantity ?

This will be clarified in a forthcoming amendment.

7/3/18

9 X What are the insurance requirements?

See Post Award Information in the Notice To Bidders, and Subsection 107.05.

7/3/18
