About this file

This is an Intent to Award document from the South Carolina Department of Corrections for a plastic injection mold system for lunch trays and lids. The solicitation (5400023589) was issued on June 28, 2022, with an opening date of July 12, 2022, at 10:00 AM. The project involves engineering and fabrication of injection molds compatible with the existing 1993 Cincinnati VT550-54 plastic injection molding machine currently operated at Wateree River Farm. The scope includes creating Solidworks 3-D models of modified tray and lid designs that remove a cutlery compartment, enlarge adjacent compartments, correct stacking features, and maintain the existing footprint dimensions. The molds must be single-cavity with cold runners, feature self-ejecting mechanisms without additional automation, be manufactured from steel P-20, and include the South Carolina Department of Corrections Agriculture Division seal. Award was made on July 27, 2022, to TerBeek Molding & Tool, LLC of Peachtree City, Georgia.

The awarded amount is $124,000.00 for one lot, with this representing a turnkey project that includes engineering, mold fabrication, and delivery. The contract requires the awarded vendor to submit the 3-D model for approval by the SCDC Agriculture Division before mold manufacturing commences. Samples of the existing tray and lid designs are available upon request to support the modification requirements. The procurement was conducted under the South Carolina Procurement Code 11-35-1520(10), which allowed waiver of the notice of intended award and the seven-business-day delay of award due to only one response being received.
