Description/Scope of Work:

The U.S. General Services Administration anticipates a future procurement for construction services for expanding the existing Child Care Facility at the George P. Shultz National Foreign

Affairs Training Center (NFATC), located at the Foreign Service Institute in Arlington, VA.

The number of children that can be accommodated shall be increased from approximately 58 children at the existing facility to 116 children in the expanded facility. The total square footage shall be increased from approximately 10,867 GSF to 23,567 GSF upon completion. This construction is being undertaken to meet the mission of providing security and education services for the children of those attending the NFATC and FSI facilities.

The scope of construction work includes (but is not limited to) earthwork, foundations, concrete, steel framework, glazing enclosure systems, mechanical heating, ventilating, and air conditioning

(HVAC) systems, electrical power, switchgear, lighting systems, vent stacks, plumbing fixtures, waste lines, full sprinkler protection, fire and security alarm systems, elevator, and audio visual equipment systems. The existing facility shall be fully occupied and operational during the construction phase. The construction work must be accomplished during the full operational occupancy of the existing Child Care Facility Building and without disturbing the normal activities. The construction must allow for Government use and occupancy in a safe and controlled manner without disturbance (i.e. noise, odor, environmental hazards).
