1. Keep areas free of debris, trash

2. Execute work to minimize of dust migration (e.g. wet mopping, HEPA vacuum)

3. Immediately replace any ceiling tile displaced for visual inspection.

Involving minor demolition in maintenance or remodeling.
CLASS

I

1. Same as Class I PLUS:

2. Establish material and debris route using non-patient/visitor pathway

3. Water mist work surface to control dust while cutting or drilling.

4. Block off and seal air vents

5. Seal unused doors with duct tape.

6. Create barriers as defined by Infection Prevention

7. Contain construction waste before transport in tightly covered container; tape covering unless solid lid.

8. Wet mop and/or vacuum with HEPA filtered vacuum before leaving work area.

9. Place sticky mat at all work area entrances and exits.

10. Remove or isolate HVAC system in construction area

CLASS

II

1. Same as Class I and II PLUS:

2. Isolate HVAC system in construction area to prevent duct system contamination

3. Complete critical barriers (i.e. sheetrock, plywood, plastic) at all construction entries and exits; monitor for seal and take immediate corrective action as needed

4. Maintain and monitor negative air pressure within construction site utilizing HEPA equipped air filtration units.

5. Remove or isolate HVAC systems in area where work is being performed.

6. Check and replace air filters as needed regularly

7. Do not remove barriers from work site until project is complete & EMS has thoroughly cleaned area; remove barriers carefully to minimize spreading dust. debris.

8. Vacuum work with HEPA filtered vacuum.

9. Wet mop area with cleaner/disinfectant.

10. Mitigate vibration and noise to lowest impact where possible.

11. Display ICRA at site

12. Seal holes, pipes, conduits and punctures.

CLASS

III

1. Same as Class I, II, and III PLUS: 4 Construct ante room; all personnel must enter through it to be vacuumed

2. Inspect adjacent areas for dust migration; take immediate corrective using HEPA vacuum before leaving or to don/doff PPE as needed 5. Wear shoe covers when entering work site; remove upon exiting site

3. Use HEPA vacuum in area prior to start of construction

CLASS

IV

This is a CLASS IV Project.

Additional Requirements:

This area has been determined to be a low-risk tuberculosis area – therefore contractor testing is not required.

Recommend powered air purifying respirator or equivalent for contractors working overhead in the sub-basement area.

Constructed anteroom and personal protective equipment (gown, head cover, eye protection, and shoe covers) are required for entry and must be removed upon exiting the SPS area at all times.

All contractors working in SPS will be required to attend a VA taught infection control donning/doffing class (less than 1 hour in length)
