Requests for Information
Install Network Data Drops | 36C26120Q0831
1. On the SOW page 7 paragraph 1: Only Category-6 cabling will be installed. The standard VA data cable is now CAT6A. Which should be installed?
VA: CAT6A shall be installed.
2. Are the two buildings new construction or existing?
VA: Existing buildings.
3. The cable to be used is Cat 6 correct and not Cat6A?
VA: CAT6A shall be installed.
4. Any color preference?
VA: Blue or White
5. Is there an existing cable tray installed?
VA: Yes, but there may be a need for additional trays.
6. Will a new patch panel be needed or are there enough ports on the existing ones?
VA: Some closets may need a new patch panel installed.
7. Section 27 05 11 Note 1 calls for “4 electrical outlets per room”. Please confirm: do we need to provide them?
VA: No, no electrical outlets are required for this project.
8. Section 27 05 11 Note 1 calls for “4 electrical outlets per room”. Are these 120v outlets?
VA: No electrical outlets are required for this project.
9. Section 27 05 11 Note 1 calls for “4 electrical outlets per room”- do we connect them to closest 120v electrical outlets and if so how far closest 120v electrical outlets are? If not, where do we home run electrical outlets wiring to?
VA: No electrical outlets are required for this project.
10. There are 4 drawings: Can you provide all Telecommunication Closets room numbers?
VA: The answer is deferred.
11. Are we installing Cat6 cabling/ hardware, Cat6E cabling/ hardware or Cat6A cabling/ hardware for this project?
VA: CAT6A shall be installed.
12. Do we need to install Fiber backbone cabling between all Telecommunication Closets on this project or is fiber backbone existing?
VA: No fiber backbone is required.
13. Do we need to install Copper backbone cabling between all Telecommunication Closets on this project or is Copper backbone existing?
VA: No copper backbone is required.
14. Are we removing existing Voice /Data cabling and hardware from each room/ Telecommunication Closet after new structured cabling system is installed?
VA: No.
15. Do you have an electrician that can install conduit for and do penetrations?
VA: The awarded contractor shall provide all labor and materials required.
16. Contactor that install Voice/Data cabling: is this contractor required to provide AC units per Section 27 05 11 page 4, note 4a “Telecommunications Closets”?
VA: No AC units required.
17. Section 27 05 11 page 4, note 4b has nothing to do with installing Voice/Data cabling, correct?
VA: Correct.
18. Do we need to install Air conditions units in Telecommunications Closets?
VA: No AC unites required.
19. I do not see a walk through scheduled. Will there be a walk through?
VA: The answer is deferred.
20. I think the closet specification is for information. The scope calls out for one patch panel. Is there a new closet as part of the scope?
VA: Each closet already has a patch panel, but some may be full, therefore there may be a requirement to install new patch panel(s).
21. Supplemental Pricing is kind of confusing; meaning in addition; is the pricing on the Supplemental Pricing have all the drops listed that you are asking a price for?
VA: The ‘Supplemental Pricing’ sheet is required as a breakdown of the proposal lump sum amount that the offeror puts into block 17 page 2 of the SF 1442. The Supplemental Pricing sheet has all the rooms listed and the ‘Faceplates’ Qty column has the number of data drops to be installed in each room.
22. B200 First Floor: for the cabling on this floor in this building what is the IDF or MDF room number?
VA: The answer is deferred.
23. B203 First Floor: for the cabling on this floor in this building what is the IDF or MDF room number?
VA: The answer is deferred.
24. B200 Ground Floor: for the cabling on this floor in this building what is the IDF or MDF room number?
VA: The answer is deferred.
25. B203 Third Floor: for the cabling on this floor in this building what is the IDF or MDF room number?
VA: The answer is deferred.
26. Please see below in Red: Is this our responsibility for all the buildings we work in? This is written in the scope of work. The Contractor shall notify the Contracting Officer and the COR when existing cables are not compliant to the wiring standards.

27. Only Category-6 Cabling will be installed? Is this True? Is so do you have a specific brand?
VA: True, Cat6a Plenum shielded (any brand)
28. Spec reference: Low Voltage Cable Distribution system Page 7 (in red). Whose responsibility is this going to be if there is none for the new locations being added. Please see below in red. Should we price for this? We have not seen inside the building. 4. All cable distribution closets shall be wired per industry (EIA/TIA 568) standards. All telephone installations shall come from a terminal board via telephone cable tray and conduit to termination point in a designated room.
VA: The answer is deferred.
29. Spec reference Low Voltage Page 2 (in red). Please see below in red. Can it be CAT6A panels and what brand? We have not seen the product/Part #’s that are being used on site. 2. All new data cable shall be terminated in the telecommunication closet on appropriate contractor provided Category 6e compliant patch panels with wire management to be provided for both vertical and horizontal management of cables and patch cords. All work to be done in accordance with the existing facility cable plant design.
VA: The answer is deferred.
30. Spec reference Low Voltage Page 2 (in red). Please see in red below. There is another specification of VA that says all cabling to be terminated on patch panels. Please let us now the correct one. 4. All new voice cable shall be terminated in the telecommunication closet on appropriate contractor provided 66-B punch down block with x-connect management. All 4 pairs must be terminated.

31. Spec reference Low Voltage Page 2 (in red). Please see below in red. There is another specification of VA that says DATA: provide 34 port patch panel. 3. In Communications closet, all cable is to be terminated on 8 pair highbands using 568B standard. Patch panels to have a minimum of 24 ports with no one patch panel to exceed 48 ports, with horizontal wire management installed between each of the patch panels. Each patch panel or highband will have its own unique number, starting with the next unused number.

32. Spec reference Additional Network Phone Drop Specifications. Is this a Cat6A solution for 3 data and 1 Cat6 at each station?
VA: The answer is deferred.
33. Spec reference Additional Network Phone Drop Specifications. Do we use 24 port, 48 port and or 34 port panels? I see in specs they say both.
VA: The answer is deferred.
34. Spec reference Additional Network Phone Drop Specifications. KRONE has ultimately been bought out by COMMSCOPE. Can we use CommScope or Leviton instead of KRONE? If not, I have been told that some parts have been discontinued for KRONE.
VA: Yes, can be use CommScope or Leviton
35. Spec reference Additional Network Phone Drop Specifications. Do we terminate all cabling on patch panels including the voice? The scope says both: terminate all cabling on patch panels including the voice, terminate voice on a 66 block.
VA: The answer is deferred.
36. Spec reference Additional Network Phone Drop Specifications. On the station side for the voice does it have to be RJ11.
VA: Yes
37. Spec reference 07 05 11 Telecommunications. One spec says 2 voice 2 data, and another says 3 data and 1 voice?
VA: It should be use 3 data and 1 voice
38. Spec reference 07 05 11 Telecommunications. Who is going to do all the cut outs with boxes?
VA: The awarded contractor shall provide all labor and materials required.
39. Spec reference 07 05 11 Telecommunications. I do not see prints showing to install any kind of wire management, but it says in spec. I do know how many and what kind.
VA: The answer is deferred.
40. Spec reference 07 05 11 Telecommunications. Do we need to purchase any 19-inch racks
VA: No
41. Are existing patch panels with sufficient ports to support the new cabling available or will the contractor need to provide new patch panels? Also if we are providing new panels is there sufficient rack space to support added panels?
VA: The answer is deferred.
42. Current cabling pathway support is through Cable tray or J rings in ceiling?
VA: Cable trays. See response to RFI five (5) above for more information.
43. Is the contractor required to provide HEPA filtration, including masking and sealing of work areas, since this is a hospital environment?
VA: Awarded contractor shall provide active means to prevent airborne dust from dispersing into the atmosphere, and contain all construction waste.
44. What are the COVID requirements for contractor personnel?
VA: All contractor employees must be screened prior to entrance into the buildings, masks/face covering must be worn at all times, and social distancing must be practiced.
45. Will the government provide color drawings that show the new drop locations?
VA: No additional drawings will be provided. However, the drop locations in each room shall be near the already installed vital signs equipment shown in the pictures. Prior to work proceeding, the location will be physically marked on the wall by the VA.
