All other Terms & Conditions remain unchanged.

Q&A RFI’s for Project# 539-22-209 Improve Trailers Q: 1. On drawing AE501 for the deck stair cutout it calls for 2x8 decking runners and 2x12 deck treads - traditionally speaking with composite decking the 2x8 is a 1x8 tread riser board and the deck treads are the same 1x6 composite decking so it would require 2 boards to equal nominally to 11" in width. Please confirm using these materials in this manner would be sufficient for design.

Answer: Guidon Design Responses: Question 1 - 1x8 fro a riser is acceptable. and 2 boards to make up the tread is acceptable.

1a. Is there a specification or basis of design for the composite decking the VA would like to be used? There is a VAST price difference in MFG and lines of decking available.

Answer: Trex Product Composite Decking shall be the basis of design..

1b. Would the VA like the new composite decking face screwed to the new substructure or would they prefer a hidden fastener system? Face screwed is generally cheaper, but hidden fasteners offer no screws tops to be seen.

Answer: Face-screwed is acceptable.

1c. Does the VA have a preferred lumber to be used on the new wood railing? Choices can change prices drastically from pressure treated to cedar...etc Answer: Pressure treated southern pine is preferred.

1d. Drawing SF101 states 8" / 10" / and 12" concrete piers for foundation of new wood deck walkway, please confirm which size is correct.

Answer: 12" is correct.

2. PART 2 – PRODUCTS

2.1 PRODUCTS Basis of Design: Section 09 06 00, SCHEDULE FOR FINISHES

Answer: There is no schedule of finishes in section 09.

3. Drawing AE100 note 10 calls to use self leveling on the floor after installing new plywood. What is the pitch of the floor to estimate the proper amount of self leveling material?

There is no note to tell us how to handle the two exterior doors after the floors are self leveled. What does the VA want to do with these doors?

Answer: Guidon Design Response. Self-leveling is to address the sagging of the existing sub-floor between structural elements…approximately 4’ apart. Before the new subfloor is installed. We need a flat surface to start from.

The 2 exterior doors swing out. The contractor shall provide a threshold to account for the added thickness. The door are not planned to be replaced or modified.

4. Drawings do not show a thickness or R value for the spray foam. Please Advise.

Answer: “The answer is R-5 per inch of thickness.”
