About this file

This document contains an amendment to a solicitation for replacing cooling towers 1 and 2. The Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration Veterans Integrated Service Network 2 is soliciting offers to replace two cooling towers and associated piping at a medical facility. Piping exposed to outdoor weather must be insulated with aluminum jackets including elbows to match the existing finish. Questions were answered clarifying that outdoor piping insulation includes elbows and that indoor piping jacket requirements do not apply. No other salient details are provided in this amendment.

RFI CLARIFICATION QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Nicholas Winne Question Specification section 230711-3.1.P states that all outdoor pipe exposed to outdoor weather is to receive a metal jacket (see below)

P. Provide metal jackets over insulation as follows:

1. All piping exposed to outdoor weather.

2. Piping exposed in building, within 1800 mm (6 feet) of the floor, that connects to sterilizers, kitchen and laundry equipment. Jackets may be applied with pop rivets. Provide aluminum angle ring escutcheons at wall, ceiling or floor penetrations.

3. A 50 mm (2 inch) overlap is required at longitudinal and circumferential joints.

Photos from the job walk show existing fittings being finished in PVC Jacket. Are the fittings in the new work to be finished with PVC or Aluminum to match the piping

The question was if the outdoor piping which is being insulated was to receive an aluminum jacket finish on the elbows or if it was to match the existing PVC fitting finish there now?

ANSWER

Revise Specification section 230711, Article 3.1.P.1 to read:

“1. All piping that is exposed to weather and required by this specification to be insulated, including elbows.”

Refer to the spec section

Delete specification section 230711, Article 3.1.P.2 as it is not applicable to this project.
