About this file

This document is a Mack Trucks Product Information sheet dated August 20, 2020, detailing Engine Starting Aids (MCA) for several truck models including Anthem, Pinnacle, Granite, LR, and TerraPro. The document is published by Mack Trucks, Inc. and provides technical specifications for various engine heating components designed to improve vehicle starting in cold weather conditions.

The product information covers multiple engine starting aid configurations, including electric engine block heaters (1000w and 1500w), electric engine oil pan heaters, and electric intake manifold grid heaters. These starting aids are available as stand-alone or bundled features with varying electrical requirements (120V-15A, 120V-20A, and 220V-15A). The document includes detailed sales codes for different combinations, specifies external power supply connection locations for different truck models, and explains that when block and oil pan heaters are ordered together, their wiring is integrated into a single external power supply connector. For 1500w block heaters with oil pan heaters, the vehicle will be equipped with a NEMA 120V-20amp "Industrial Plug" instead of a standard 120V-15amp "Household Plug".

Engine Block Heater

The engine block heater is located in the engine coolant system and is responsible for warming the coolant throughout the engine block, cylinder head and around the cylinders liners. The block heater is powered by an external 120v or 220v power source with varied amperage ratings.

Engine Electric Pre-heater

The pre-heater is located at the inlet of the engine intake manifold and powered by the vehicle’s 12v electrical system. When ambient air temperature is below 54ºF the pre-heater will engage, heating the air as it enters the manifold. Once the engine has started, the pre-heater will typically remain active for 25 to 50 seconds.

Oil Pan Heater

The oil pan heater is used to heat the engine oil while the vehicle is stationary. The oil heater is powered by an external 120v source.
