EXISTING CONDITIONS

3.1 General

A. There are three draft tube gates (one per unit) at the Falcon Power Plant. The gates are raised and lowered with the gantry crane. There are no spare gates. The gates were last removed and repainted in the 1980’s. The gates are presumed to be original to the Power Plant.

B. There are three Penstock intake gates (one per unit) at the Falcon Power Plant. The gates are roller gates affixed to a large vertical hydraulic cylinder. The gate hydraulic system is original, and the last rehabilitation was performed in 1985. The rehab consisted of sand-blasting and painting of the gates and cylinder. The age of the gate seals is unknown. There are numerous micro-leaks in the hydraulic power units and controls. There is prevalent corrosion in the Penstock 1 gate, but it appears to be mostly superficial. The gate seals provided an 80% to 90% seal. Leakage is located at the seal and not the gate structure.
