About this file

This document provides questions and answers related to solicitation number 140P8422R0007 for replacing the Oak Bottom Water Distribution Systems and Sewer Collection System at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area in Shasta County, California. The National Park Service is seeking to replace the existing potable water distribution system and sanitary sewer collection system throughout the Oak Bottom Marina area. Questions and answers address details such as the material to be used for compacted backfill around piping, both in and out of asphalt areas, as well as above sewer pipe bedding. The document also confirms the Park has an on-site disposal area near Carr Powerhouse that can only accept natural soils and rock materials from the project. A site visit is scheduled for June 30, 2022 at 11:00am Pacific Time and interested parties should RSVP in advance to the Contracting Officer.

SOLICITATION NO. 140P8422R0007

REPLACE OAK BOTTOM WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS &

SEWER COLLECTION SYSTEM

WHISKEYTOWN NATIONAL RECREATION AREA

FINAL TIMELY RECEIVED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS:

Q13: What material is to be used for the “compacted backfill” for out of asphalt piping and in asphalt piping- see pic below (taken from sheet 11 on water drawings)?

A13: The intent is that the compacted backfill will consist of native material that is excavated to construct the new utilities. Because the utilities are generally being placed along the same alignments as existing, this material will likely consist of a mixture of previously placed granular bedding and native soil. Per the specifications, the backfill must be free of rocks, cobbles, roots, etc. See Specification 311233 Part 21. The main point to understand is that this material will be material that is obtained from on site.

Q14: In regards to the Sewer Pipe, what material is to be used for above the bedding (basically same Q as above) but there is really no pipe trench detail for the sewer plans?

A14: See answer to Q13.

Q15: Does Bid Item #33 Asphalt Pavement Restoration include for only 4” of asphalt, or is it meant to include for 6” of aggregate base and 4” of asphalt pavement?

A15: It is meant to include 4” asphalt and 6” aggregate base.

Q16: Does the Park have a soil/concrete/asphalt disposal site?

A16: The Park does have a disposal site near Carr Power house (about 2 miles west of Oak Bottom). The disposal site may only be used for natural soils and rock materials only. The contractor may not dispose of asphalt or concrete at the site.
