About this file
This document provides questions and answers to supplement the statement of work for Solicitation No. 140P8323Q0084 to replace the primary generator at Olympic National Park. The National Park Service seeks a generator with a rating between 25KW and 35KW to allow the park to upgrade heating systems and appliances from propane to electric. The generator must have a sound enclosure and exhaust system to minimize noise, as well as a load balancer to prevent low load damage and shut down or run the generator only on demand to maintain optimal conditions. An RPM gauge is not required if a hertz meter is included.

Solicitation (Request for Quotes) No. 140P823Q0084 – Amendment 1
Attachment 4, Questions & Answers (9/18/23)
Replace Staircase Area Primary Generator, OLYM
The following are questions/answers to supplement the Statement of Work in the solicitation, and in some cases may provide some different information than what is stated in the Statement of
Work. Where there are differences, quoters shall make pen and ink changes in those sections in the Statement of Work with the information provided in this Q and A.
For questions #1 through 5 below, refer to Statement of Work section 2.1, Generator System
Requirements, Section A, Generator Salient Features:
QUESTION 1: Rating states between 25KW and 35KW prime rating. (What is the actual load for the generator?.
ANSWER 1: Actual load by load calculations for the existing standby generator are under 20KW. We are looking for a generator that can provide 25KW-
35KW that will allow the park to upgrade heating systems and appliances from propane to electric. Per the Park electrician 25KW-35KW would provide the park with the capacity to expand. I am attaching panel pictures and current loads provided by the park electrician.
QUESTION 2: With a Sound Enclosure, the complete generator including exhaust is contained within the enclosure.
QUESTION 3: Concern with this generator set in a Sound Attenuated Enclosure, will there be the required cooling air for the generator and the engine?
ANSWERS 2 & 3: The sound enclosure should be factory standard with insulation on panels to dampen noise. This would be in addition to end outlet silencer with flexible hose to vent the exhaust outside of the building. We are looking for solutions to minimize as much noise as possible. If the company has additional sound dampening options available, we would be interested in submittals to conduct research. There is no required cooling air for the generator and engine that I am aware of since the generator would be liquid cooled. The building it will be installed in is properly vented and will sufficiently provide enough air flow.
QUESTION 4: Explain Load Balancer: What is the expectation?
ANSWER 4: Load Balancer- Looking for solutions that will minimize low load times and prevent damage to the generator when the load drops below
50%. There should be a low load cutoff that would shut the generator down and operate off battery back-up or the generator would perform in an "on demand" capacity and adjust output based on demand keeping the generating operating at optimal conditions.

QUESTION 5: The generator set operates at a constant 60HZ, 1800 RPM, so is the
Tachometer really required since the HZ Meter does measure the speed of the generator set?
ANWER 5: An RPM gauge can be omitted as long a Hertz meter is available.
