Wind Cave National Park – Elevator System Rehabilitation 140P6323B0013 Questions and Answers
Question 1.
Can the owner provide more detailed information on the condition/weigh load capacity for the hoisting beams located in the “penthouse” top floor above the access hatches that will be used to haul material and equipment in and out of the top story?
Government Response: Each of the two hoist beams are designed for 4,000 LB capacity.
Question 2.
Per the specifications “there are no known ACM in the project work areas”.
• Is the contractor to include pre-alt testing prior to any demolition of existing materials?
• Does the owner have any test results or record of materials in the building that could contain ACM or lead based paint?
Government Response: No abatement is anticipated. The only know ACM is in the caulk at windows.
Question 3.
Please provide any records of radon testing from the building/shafts.
Government Response: See Amendment 0003 Attachment 3 radon report.
Question 4.
Is the contractor to include radon testing prior to work beginning?
Government Response: Not a requirement of this contract. See Question #3 for attached Radon Report.
Question 5.
Elevator Machine Room Windows:
Do the windows need to be fire rated to meet current codes?
Government Response: No
Question 6.
Hall Fixtures:
• Can the park provide an idea/drawing of how they think this should look? The way it appears in the specifications we are concerned the landings will look busy with that many options. Can we consolidate these features for a clean look?
Government Response: See detail 7, sheet A2 in drawings.
Question 7.
Penthouse/Machine Room
• Would the park consider allowing the contractor to remove/salvage the existing window so we can crane the machines, equipment, and materials in versus trying to hoist them through the 2 levels of false floors? Our concern is moving the larger concrete false panels due to size, and likely weight, also temporary storage location for those panels to avoid workspace congestion. The contractor would then reinstall the original back to its original state after completion.
Government Response: Government will allow this if the window is replaced as originally installed, without damage to the building or window and the building is fully enclosed at the end of each day.
If the contractor chooses to remove the windows, the contractor assumes all liability to the windows and building.
Question 8.
Specifications pg. 102 26.51.00 2.1.B and Drawing E0.
