About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for the 140P5325R0008 Fire Suppression System Install federal contract opportunity. The Q&A addresses two technical clarifications: 1) confirmation that a Reduced Pressure Principle Valve Assembly backflow preventer complying with ASSE 1012 and AWWA M14 is required, and 2) guidance on resolving a fire line sizing discrepancy between drawings FX501 (2" underground supply) and C101 (6" fire line). The contracting team suggests the contractor can reduce pipe size on the building's exterior before entering the building, with the 6" line currently extending from the city's main to the edge of the landscape where the fire suppression system will be installed.

140P5325R0008 FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM INSTALL

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

1. Section 21 13 16 – Preaction Sprinkler Systems The specification references ASSE 1013 for Reduced Pressure Principle Backflow

Preventers and ASSE 1012 under section 2.8 for Reduced Pressure Valve Assemblies.

Question: Is a Reduced Pressure Backflow Assembly required, or would a Double Check Assembly be acceptable?

Answer: Per specifications 21 13 16-15 2.8 A. Reduced-pressure principle valve assembly backflow preventer complying with ASSE 1012 and AWWA M14 would be required.

2. Fire Line Sizing Discrepancy Drawing FX501 notes an underground supply size of 2", whereas drawing C101 indicates a 6" fire line.

Question: Where should the transition/reduction in pipe size occur? There is not an exact location identified on the drawings.

Answer: If the contractor can reduce the size on the outside of the building before going in the building would be great. There is not an exact location identified on the drawings. Currently there is a 6” line from the city’s main to the edge of the landscape on the exterior of the building this fire suppression will be going. If you look at drawing C101 and Specific note number 2 is where the pipe stops.
