Questions and Answers – 140P1423R0014 - Grand Teton Jenny Lake One-way Micro Surfacing - Amendment 1

1. Reviewing the micro surface process, and the SOW, the SOW states to vacuum sweep one day after application and sweep two weeks to one month after placement.

Correct, based on the STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF ROADS AND BRIDGES ON FEDERAL HIGHWAY PROJECTS FP-14 Section 409 - Micro Surfacing. Perform the initial sweep once the treated areas have cured. Perform a second sweep two weeks to one month after application.

2. The SOW gives no specific timing of paint/striping application. Other technical guidance provides a range from one hour after application of the micro surface up to 14 days.

Perform the initial vacuum sweep after treated areas have cured. "Allow treated areas to cure completely before opening to traffic. Cure is complete when clear water can be pressed out of the placed mix with a piece of paper without discoloring the paper." Apply paint after the initial vacuum sweep.

3. The contractor believes the sweeping, two weeks after the application micro surface and painting, would damage the paint and reduce the quality of the end product.

If the micro-surfacing and paint are applied correctly, the sweeping should not damage the paint. This is the process the FHWA uses for micro-surfacing application.

4. Is it possible to perform this project in September?

There is no flexibility to postpone to September. The POP in the RFP is modified to reflect award and preconstruction activities. On site contract performance may be 6/20-23 or 6/26-30.
