About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document dated April 21, 2026, addressing clarifications on a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for a metal sheet storage rack system. The document does not contain response dates, award dates, pricing terms, set-asides, or federal agency information.

The Q&A clarifies seven key requirements for the storage rack: an 8-yard dumpster is available on-site for use; the maximum height for the last drawer is 90 inches (not 79 inches as originally stated); single-sided access is required rather than a bi-directional unit; the frame depth may be increased by a maximum of 8 inches to accommodate cantilever forces; a 5,000-pound weight capacity is mandatory for 48x48-inch sheet storage; the installation surface consists of 8-inch reinforced concrete; the installation must comply with ANSI/RMI MH16.1 standards and be professionally installed plumb and level per manufacturer specifications; and drawer operation is manual without mechanical extraction or retraction systems. These specifications establish the technical parameters for vendor proposals responding to the RFQ.

Responses to Questions

Question Response 1 Will there be an on-site dumpster we can use?

We have an 8 Yard dumpster

2 The RFQ asks for last drawer to be 79” high. We believe this maybe a typo and our calculations show it should be 89” based on the other requests.

A max height of 90” inches would be acceptable

3 Can you clarify what they mean by a double universal rollout sheet rack please? We believe it may mean they want bi-directional unit which also impacts the depth they are asking for.

We do not need a bi-directional unit we only need access from one side

4 Is it possible to propose the attached design resized accordingly? This would be the most cost effective and would allow for the 5,000lb capacity The depth (open) vs the 58” depth for the frame will put a cantilever force on the unit. If the attached design is not possible can the depth be increased by 6-8”?

Is 5,000lbs really required? The sheet dimensions of 48x48 would require a significant thick stack of steel to come close to that. If it is not 5,000lbs that allows more flexibility in the design.

*Yes , the depth can be increased by 6”- 8” with 8” being the max.

*5,000 Ibs is required.

5 What is the thickness of the concrete that will be under the storage rack? Is it reinforced with rebar?

8” reinforced concrete

6 What are the specific NIST safety requirements needed?

Must be professionally installed plumb and level per manufacturer specifications and ANSI/RMI MH16.1 standards to prevent tipping or collapse under the substantial weight of stored metal sheets

7 Are they expecting to pull the drawers out manually or do they

Manually
