Waterway Obstructions / Drift - There are 2 logs lying in the waterway under Span 1.
Bridge Railing - The pipe bridgerails are rusting, but no significant corrosion was noted. The rail is bent downward on both sides of Span 2. (Photo 20) It appears that a tree fell on it. The rail is missing on the right side of Span 1 (Photo 21); probably as a result of a vehicular collision or a fallen tree.
Signing - The approach roadway and bridge deck are marked with a double yellow line painted at centerline. The striping on the deck has worn away.
Object Markers - There is a Type 3 object markers in place on each side of Abutments 1 and 5. All have been vandalized and appear to be losing their reflective properties. The object marker on the right side of Abutment 1 is twisted toward the roadway and the object marker on the left side of Abutment 5 is leaning slightly, but both remain visible to approaching vehicles. Consider replacing the object markers.
Vegetation - Vegetation is heavy in the waterway on both sides of the bridge.
Deck Slab / Panels / Joists - The deck surface is becoming worn. (Photos 1 and 2) Aggregate in the concrete is exposed. The deck surface has minor, “D” cracking adjacent to longitudinal joints as follows:
Span Unit 1 4, 5, 7 2 4, 5 (Photo 1), 7 3 3, 4
The pre-cast channel units have sections of concrete breaking out of the deck surface at the corners as follows:
Span Unit Bent 1 4 (Photo 2), 5, 6 2 2 4, 5 2 2 4, 5, 7 3 3 4, 6 3 3 3, 5 4 4 3, 5, 6 4 Expansion Joints - Joint seals are not bonding to the concrete properly and have begun to peel out in some areas.
(Photo 4) Curbs - The curb on the left side of Span 4 has an 8”x8”x5” section broken off at the end. (Photo 5) The curb is cracked adjacent to one bridgerail post on the left side of Span 3 adjacent to the joint at Bent 4. (Photo 6) There is a similar crack on the right side of Span 4 adjacent to the joint at Bent 4. The concrete curb is broken at all points where the rail posts were embedded on the right side of Span 1. (Photo 7)
Drains and Drainage, Cleanliness - Dirt and debris accumulating in the gutterlines is preventing proper deck drainage.
(Photo 8) Girders - Span 2, Girders 5 and 8 (Photos 9 and 10) have diagonal cracks 14” to 18” in length at the bearing on Bent
3. Concrete is spalling off of the ends of some girders at the bearing area. Spalling is occurring at the point where steel was embedded in the bearing area of the girder. (Photo 11) These are thin, unreinforced sections of concrete that do not appear to affect the structural integrity of the girder.
ITEM REFERENCE AND REMARKS ~ NARRATIVE REPORT
Bearing Devices - The steel bearing plates are severely corroded (Photos 12 and 13), but continue to serve their intended purpose.
Posts / Piles / Tie Backs - Abutment 5, Pile 3 has been replaced with a new pile driven beside the original. Bent 2, Piles 3 and 5 (Photo 14); Bent 3, Pile 4; and Bent 4, Piles 1 and 2 are in various stages of decay. (See Sketches) Wingwalls - The wingwall piles are in various stages of decay (Photos 15, 16, and 17), but continue to provide minimal support for the walls. The wingwall planks are decaying at the base of the wall on the left side of Abutment 1 and the right side of Abutment 5. (Photo 18) The top wingwall plank on the left side of Abutment 1 has been dislodged. (Photo 16) Caps - The cap at Bent 2 is beginning to decay adjacent to a check between Piles 4 and 5. (Photo 19)
Remarks
A portion of Spans 1 and 4 have been covered with chip seal material to a depth of approximately 1”. (Photo 1)
