Questions & Answers
| No. | Spec/ Page | Question | |
| 1 | 128200 | There is a spec for asbestos remediation, what is the scope of work to price? USDA Answer: Paragraph 1.3.1 of the asbestos spec (02 82 00) provides a very general scope. Sheet D-000 of the drawings has keyed note 6 for asbestos abetment associated with the windows and keyed note 18 covers asbestos abatement associated with the door frames. Please note that the asbestos spec requires the Contractor to hire a “Qualified Person” who is licensed as an asbestos designer in Pennsylvania to develop a design for the work. The government has a copy of the Limited Asbestos Survey for the work under this project. |
2 61000/p3/1.7 Will the rafters be pressure treated? What spacing will the rafters be installed? Can a connection detail be provided? USDA Answer: 2. Yes, the timbers should be pressure treated. Keyed notes 2 and 3 on sheet D-100 cover the rafters and decking. Verification of the extent of damage can be determined when the roofing is removed. The intent is to replace the timber construction (rafters and decking) with matching new construction and to use the existing walls and structural supports. If special connectors are required in a unique situation, the Contractor can utilize the connection details of repairs that were recently performed (visible in the mechanical attic space). Shop drawings for the connector/connections (if required) can be submitted for approval by the A-E.
3 28200 Will an asbestos scope of work or report be provided? USDA Answer: The government has a copy of the asbestos survey, and a copy is attached in this email.
| 4 | L.3.d. p44/46 | The past performance requirements states to show projects completed within three and five years. Which is correct? USDA Answer: Three years is the number of years key personnel must be employed with the company; five years is the number of years of direct work experience related to managing PVC roof repair and replacement projects and pre-finished wall panel installations. |
| 5 | Does the construction experience for the site super and pm need to come from the prime? USDA Answer: For roofing projects it is preferred that the experience apply to the contractor installing the roof. |
6 D100 On D100 note 3 calls all rafters to be 6" x 8". Will 5-1/2" x 7-1/2" be acceptable or will a rough sawn 6" x 8" be required? USDA Answer: The Contractor should field verify, but the A/E’s notes indicate the rafters are actual dimensions, not nominal dimensions. Again, the intent is to replace the damaged materials with new, like-in-kind construction. The rafters may have to be cutdown is size at connections within existing masonry walls, or shim may be required at the walls to raise the timbers to the proper elevations.
