Questions and Answers #2
C8, b, (ii), B Drop Cord. Requirements:
Is this provision actually a desired and required contract specification?
This question is based on the following: We are reading this provision to be one that is normally applicable to helicopters. It occasionally slips into the Air Attack contract language and is later deleted. As the drop cord described in this section of the contract is not something we have ever had an Air Attack supervisor wish to have, no, put another way; the ATGSs insist that such drop cord must be removed because it fouls up their ability to communicate and not make mistakes.
C8, b, (ii), B Drop Cord. Requirements: ATGS crew are not aviators, therefore they cannot touch or manipulate any flight controls. The requirements for drop cords allow them to communicate through push to talk controls without any touching of the flight controls.
C8, b, 5(iii) Multi Function Displays (MFD) Pg. 34
Is the requirement for weather to be displayed on the Multi Function Display possibly amendable to allow for weather to be displayed on alternate devices that are provided with satellite based weather data? The specific example is the Garmin 396, 496, etc. type of weather display system.
There are several advantages to this alternative. One specifically, maintaining traffic or other specific value on the MFD, while displaying weather on another display. Another advantage being a separate power supply, battery based in a portable device that also provides moving mapping, navigation, dynamic real-time Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) updates, as well as flight instrument data as a stand alone, independently battery powered reserve system.
MFDs shall be installed within view of the PIC and display GPS navigation information on a color moving map. TAS and weather datalink information shall be displayed on the MFD when these systems are required.
For this solicitation, Avionics Specifications will be strictly adhered to.
Under C-4 par h, “EFB’s used in the aircraft are FAA approved”. Does the approval in our operations specification “A061 (Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) Program” provide the FAA Approval you are looking for?
An EFB approval does not allow a passenger in the aircraft to use their personal electronic devise, which is not the EFB, in all modes of flight.
The EFB is for the company pilot not the passengers.
