Stability Operations
Added: Nov 26, 2010 10:51 am Stability Operations Training Division(FSI/SPAS/SO) imparts knowledge and develops skills that enable USG interagency personnel to perform thework required for reconstruction and stabilization operations, both in Washington, D.C. and abroad. TheStability Operations Division (SO) offers courses in two distinct but related areas: the first focuses specificallyon pre-deployment training for persons assigned as members of the U.S. Mission to Afghanistan, Iraq orPakistan; or as members of various field positions, including provincial reconstruction teams, in Afghanistan or Iraq; the second focuses broadly on preparing personnel to handle the USG's mandate to perform stabilization and reconstruction (R&S) activities in fragile nations, particularly members of the Civilian Response Corps(CRC) fostered by the Department of State Office of the Secretary's Coordinator for Reconstruction and Stabilization. In total, SO currently offers six different courses ranging in length from tee days to two weeks for Foreign Service and Civil Service employees, as well as some military personnel, serving in conflict-prone settings requiring reconstruction and stabilization. Upon request, SO provides country-specific familiarization courses for USG employees and contractors assigned on a temporary basis to assist Embassies in conflict-prone periods.
