- The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research awarded the University of Arizona $284,714 on July 8, 2026, under the Oral Diseases and Disorders Research program (CFDA 93.121) to conduct genomic analysis identifying therapeutic targets for HPV-associated oral cancers, specifically oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma driven by HPV16. The research uses gene co-expression network methods to study long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and their regulatory roles across HPV16-driven cervical...
- Federal Grant Award Summary The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) awarded $433,125 to the University of California, Los Angeles under the Oral Diseases and Disorders Research program (CFDA 93.121) on August 20, 2025, to support a project investigating small molecule inhibitors against human papillomavirus (HPV)-induced oropharyngeal cancers. This R21 pilot project will deliver research services and drug screening capabilities designed to identify therapeutic...
- The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research awarded the University of Pennsylvania $427,839 on August 1, 2026, under the Oral Diseases and Disorders Research program (CFDA 93.121) to develop and validate a multimodal imaging platform integrating stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) microscopy with tissue immunofluorescence for spatially resolved metabolic mapping at single-cell resolution in human papillomavirus-positive head and neck squamous cell carcinoma tissue. The research...
- The National Cancer Institute awarded Rutgers The State University of New Jersey $651,548 on July 27, 2026, under the Cancer Treatment Research program (CFDA 93.395) to expand the repertoire of T cell receptor (TCR)-based therapies for human papillomavirus 16 (HPV16)-associated cancers beyond HLA-A*02:01 restriction. The recipient will systematically identify and validate TCRs restricted by prevalent HLA class I alleles including HLA-C07:01, C04:01, C07:02, A01:01, A03:01, and B07:02. Work...
- Federal Grant Award Summary The Ohio State University received a $315,000 Project Grant award from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) under the Oral Diseases and Disorders Research program (CFDA 93.121), effective July 15, 2025, through July 14, 2027. This award supports research focused on developing novel antibody therapeutics to target Human Papillomavirus (HPV) oncoproteins E6 and E7 in HPV-positive head and neck cancer (HNC). The research leverages the...
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases awarded Marian University Inc. $208,880 on May 6, 2026, under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855) to investigate lysine methylation as a regulatory mechanism of human papillomavirus E2 protein function. The research addresses fundamental HPV biology, specifically how the viral E2 protein—essential for viral genome replication, transcriptional activation, and tethering to host mitotic chromosomes—is regulated...
- Federal Grant Award Summary Baylor College of Medicine received a $320,000 Project Grant from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research under the Oral Diseases and Disorders Research program (CFDA 93.121) awarded July 15, 2025, with a completion date of July 14, 2027. The research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of radiotherapy resistance in immunologically cold, Human Papillomavirus (HPV)-negative head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). The project delivers...
The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research awarded Rutgers The State University of New Jersey $431,750 on August 1, 2026, under the Oral Diseases and Disorders Research program (CFDA 93.121) to investigate HPV DNA structure and genome instability at sites of viral integration in host genomes. The award funds research examining how high-risk human papillomavirus integration into the host genome drives carcinogenesis, with focus on the structural alterations and chromosomal instability that follow integration events. The recipient will analyze over 2,000 integration events from The Cancer Genome Atlas, published cell lines, and in-house datasets to assess enrichment at common and rare fragile sites and replication stress-associated features including R-loops and G-quadruplexes. The work will test whether HPV integration occurs at pre-existing fragile sites or actively induces site fragility through replication stress, using custom four-probe interphase fluorescence in situ hybridization on HPV-positive and HPV-negative cell lines. The recipient will also employ CRISPR-engineered HPV16-TP63 integration models in keratinocytes to determine whether the HPV upstream regulatory region induces replication stress and initiates tandem duplications or extrachromosomal DNA formation at integration sites. Work is performed in Newark, New Jersey. The period of performance runs from August 1, 2026, through July 31, 2028. This is a Project Grant assistance type.
