- Summary of Federal Project Grant Award Yale University has been awarded $922,750 under the Mental Health Research Grants program (CFDA 93.242) administered by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) to conduct a two-year research project from September 1, 2025, through August 31, 2027. The project, titled "Characterizing Dynamic Neural Indices of Sound Sensitivity in Autism," will deliver empirical research examining the neurological mechanisms underlying auditory sensory...
The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) awarded a $863,276 Project Grant (CFDA 93.242 - Mental Health Research Grants) to The Regents of the University of California, San Francisco on February 3, 2026, for a research study evaluating the Resilience in Action (RIA) curriculum in young adults with autism spectrum disorder (YAASD) aged 19-26 years. The award extends through November 30, 2030, and will expand testing of the RIA curriculum from its original San Francisco Bay Area setting into two additional community and academic sites in Boston, Massachusetts, and Baltimore, Maryland. The primary deliverables include a randomized waitlist control trial examining RIA curriculum effectiveness on resilience targets (self-determination, self-efficacy, social confidence, and emotional regulation) across 288 participants; a 12-month follow-up assessment analyzing associations between resilience improvements and mental health outcomes, vocational performance, and quality of life; and an implementation science evaluation across the three geographically dispersed sites. This research addresses a critical gap in services for YAASD transitioning out of secondary education, as this population experiences degradation of social skills and elevated risk of poor outcomes. The pilot-tested RIA curriculum demonstrated 100% course completion rates and high participant satisfaction, with measurable pre/post improvements in resilience metrics.Federal Project Grant Award Summary
