The research addresses the urgent need for new metabolies, including obesity and associated metabolic disorders. Work is performed in Palo Alto, California with a period of...
- Federal Project Grant Award Summary The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) received a $2.56 million Project Grant from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) under the Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.847), effective September 1, 2025, through August 31, 2029. This award funds basic biomedical research investigating the neurobiological mechanisms by which animals learn to prefer calorie-rich foods,...
- Federal Project Grant Award Summary The University of California, San Francisco received a $2.97 million Project Grant award from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) under the Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.847), effective September 4, 2025, with completion targeted for August 31, 2029. This award supports translational research investigating the regulatory mechanisms by which fatty acids control protein...
- The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases awarded the University of California, Berkeley $1.332 million on September 25, 2025, under the Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.847) to investigate neuropeptidergic mechanisms underlying hedonic feeding behavior. The funded research examines neurotensin signaling in the pathway connecting the lateral nucleus accumbens to the ventral tegmental area, focusing on how this neuropeptide...
- The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases awarded The Regents of the University of California, San Francisco $194,076 on September 1, 2026, under the Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.847). The award funds a multi-omic investigation of the gut-liver axis in HIV-related liver disease. The project will define mechanistic and biomarker pathways along the gut-liver axis that contribute to and predict hepatic fibrosis in people...
- The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases awarded the University of California, Los Angeles $128,235 on September 13, 2026, under the Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.847). The award funds research to discover mechanisms of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) through single nucleus RNA-sequencing analysis of cell-type and cellular subtypes in subcutaneous adipose tissue, visceral adipose...
- The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases awarded the University of California, Los Angeles $167,363 on March 1, 2026, under the Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.847) to support basic and clinical biomedical research on novel central nervous system mechanisms in obesity. The award funds research investigating how the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus integrates nutrient-related cues to control peripheral energy and...
The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases awarded The Regents of the University of California, San Francisco $819,556 on August 27, 2026, under the Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases Extramural Research program (CFDA 93.847). The research investigates the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) activity-dependent trafficking and ciliary localization. MC4R is essential for body weight regulation and represents a pharmacological target for obesity treatment. The project combines cellular model studies with in vivo mouse studies to dissect the role of MC4R and MRAP2 ubiquitination in ciliary exit, characterize the roles of beta-arrestin and MC4R phosphorylation in regulated MC4R exit from primary cilia, and determine the nature of the ubiquitin ligase complex regulating MC4R exit from cilia. Primary cilia are cell surface projections that receive and transduce intercellular signals; the research builds on prior findings that MC4R localizes and functions at primary cilia and that MC4R and MRAP2 exit cilia upon activation. Work is performed in San Francisco, California. The period of performance runs through June 30, 2031. The assistance type is a Project Grant, which supports basic and clinical biomedical research improving understanding of disease mechanisms and leading to improved prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
