Project Grant R01AI185685
- This $198,720 Project Grant award from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) under CFDA 93.855, the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program, will fund a 5-year study to investigate post-infectious dysautonomia in patients with Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC) and Post-Treatment Lyme Disease (PTLD). The Johns Hopkins University will leverage its clinical resources to prospectively evaluate patients, conduct objective autonomic testing, analyze...
- This Project Grant award, totaling $913,012 and effective from August 22, 2025 to July 31, 2030, was provided by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research federal grant program (CFDA 93.855). The grant supports research at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) to assess the mechanistic basis for the increased prevalence of "Long COVID" or post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 in women compared to men. The...
- This Project Grant award from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (CFDA 93.855 Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research) provides $175,428 to The Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania to investigate the mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets for "Long COVID". The key objectives are to: 1) Determine how SARS-CoV-2-specific CD8 T cells respond to viral reservoirs in Long COVID patients, 2) Assess whether therapies that suppress SARS-CoV-2 replication...
- This Project Grant award from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (CFDA 93.855 - Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research) provides $200,016 to The Regents of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) to conduct a 5-year research program focused on elucidating the mechanisms by which certain children develop critical illness from SARS-CoV-2 infection. The key objectives are to: 1) Define and characterize the autoantibody repertoire in children with severe...
- This Project Grant award from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (CFDA 93.855 Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research) provides $190,058 to the University of Massachusetts Medical School to investigate the role of the ADAM9 protein in the immune response to SARS-CoV-2 infection. The goal is to define how ADAM9 impacts the immunopathogenesis of severe COVID-19 and its effects on acute lung injury. The research will build on the grantee's preliminary findings...
- This federal Project Grant award from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855), is providing $811,009 to the University of California, Davis to develop a new tool called the Shear-Force Avidity-based Cell Selector (SACS) to assess functional immunity to influenza infection. The goal is to create a microfluidic device that can capture and separate B cells based on the avidity (binding strength) of...
- This federal Project Grant award of $705,557 from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855) supports research to better understand the coordination of innate and cellular mucosal immunity in SARS-CoV-2 clearance. The primary objectives are to determine the contribution of monocytes in promoting T cell responses and viral control within the respiratory tract, and to define the effector mechanisms of...
- This Project Grant award from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research program (CFDA 93.855), provides $446,875 to The Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania to evaluate the use of Fibroblast Activation Protein (FAP) Positron Emission Computed Tomography (FAP PET/CT) imaging to characterize lung fibrosis in adult pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) patients. The research aims to determine how changes in FAP radiographic...
- This $854,000 Project Grant awarded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), under the Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research Federal Grant Program (CFDA 93.855), aims to assess post-tuberculosis (TB) lung disease in TB patients with and without HIV coinfection. The project will utilize novel positron emission tomography (PET) imaging techniques, such as 11C-rifampin PET, to longitudinally profile lesional characteristics and antibiotic exposures in animal models...
- This Project Grant award from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (CFDA 93.855 - Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research) provides $107,995 to investigate the role of T cells in promoting post-acute memory deficits after COVID-19 infection in mice. The funding supports the use of a recently developed mouse model to study how systemic inflammation promotes the recruitment of antigen-specific T cells to the central nervous system after SARS-CoV-2 infection, and how these T...
The University of California, Davis was awarded a $808,672 Project Grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (CFDA 93.855 Allergy and Infectious Diseases Research) to conduct multi-parametric total-body positron emission tomography (PET) imaging to investigate the immune activation and systemic manifestations of post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 (PASC) infection. The 4-year project aims to develop and validate a kinetic model for the 18F-ARAG radiotracer, which has selectivity towards activated T cells, to quantify immune system activity in different anatomical sites and tissue types of PASC patients compared to a control group. This research is expected to provide new insights into the complex, multi-system immune-related mechanisms underlying PASC and guide the development of preventative measures and treatments for this persisting public health challenge.
