The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) awarded a $116,910 Project Grant under the USGS Cooperative Landslide Hazard Mapping and Assessment Program (CFDA 15.821) to the University of Arizona, doing business as the Arizona Board of Regents. The grant will fund a 1-year project from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026 to map landslides in four study areas within Yavapai County, Arizona that are highly susceptible to landslides. The key activities include: 1) preliminarily identifying and mapping suspected landslide features using LiDAR data, 2) conducting field work to characterize the geologic settings conducive to landslides, 3) creating outreach products like an ArcGIS StoryMap and Google Earth tour to inform stakeholders and the public, and 4) updating the Arizona statewide landslide inventory database. The resulting data will be provided to county, state, and federal transportation engineers, as well as emergency planners, land-use planners, mining entities, and landslide researchers to help reduce landslide risks in these areas.
