The University of Kentucky Research Foundation received a $200,138 project grant from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Cooperative Landslide Hazard Mapping and Assessment Program (CFDA 15.821). The grant supports the development of historical and event-based landslide inventories for Eastern Kentucky, with the goal of informing hazard mitigation and risk reduction strategies in the region.
The key products to be delivered include two detailed landslide inventories - one based on historical data and another focused on the July 2022 storm event - as well as an evaluation of the July 2022 landslide event. The inventories will leverage high-resolution LiDAR data to identify and map thousands of previously unmapped landslides. The findings will be documented in a USGS technical report and a journal publication to inform stakeholders in hazard mitigation, public safety, infrastructure planning, and risk reduction across Kentucky.
