The University of Arizona, through a $941,362 Cooperative Agreement awarded by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) under the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (CFDA 15.810), will conduct the following activities over a 2-year project period from September 2024 to September 2026:

  1. Produce geologic maps and Level 3 GEMS-compliant geodatabases for three 7.5-minute quadrangles in west-central Arizona, including the Arrastra Mountain NE, Thorn Peak, and Ives Peak quadrangles.
  2. Compile geochronologic data for the entire state of Arizona and publish the results in an AZGS bulletin.
  3. Create a draft geologic map and Level 3 GEMS-compliant geodatabase for the Transition Zone region of Arizona, working towards a new 1:500,000-scale statewide geologic map.

The geologic mapping and data compilation products will support land use planning, resource management, hazard mitigation, and scientific research needs across Arizona by providing critical geological information to a range of stakeholders, including government policymakers, professional geologists, and the general public.
