United Migrant Opportunity Services (Umos) received a $1,365,171 Project Grant from the U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration under the National Farmworker Jobs Program (CFDA 17.264), effective July 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026. The award funds comprehensive workforce development and support services designed to strengthen the employment capacity and economic self-sufficiency of eligible migrant and seasonal farmworkers (MSFWs) and their dependents in Missouri. Core service components include basic and individualized career services, occupational skills training leading to industry-recognized credentials, youth workforce development activities for participants ages 14-24, and related assistance services including allowance payments to support farmworker participation in training and career development programs.
In addition to employment and training services, the grant enables Umos to provide housing assistance to address critical needs for safe and sanitary permanent and temporary housing within the farmworker community. Housing services include direct payments for emergency and temporary housing assistance, as well as indirect support through activities designed to increase or maintain housing stock availability and support housing development projects that improve living conditions for underserved farmworker populations. All services are delivered through a case management approach emphasizing customer choice and individual needs assessment, with performance reporting requirements aligned to Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) metrics.
