United Migrant Opportunity Services (Umos) received a $1.92M Project Grant from the U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration under the National Farmworker Jobs Program (CFDA 17.264), effective July 1, 2025 through September 30, 2026. The award supports comprehensive workforce development and support services for eligible migrant and seasonal farmworkers (MSFWs) and their dependents in Wisconsin. Services are delivered through a case management approach emphasizing customer choice and include basic and individualized career services, occupational skills training, youth workforce development activities for participants aged 14-24, and related assistance services such as allowance payments for short-term direct assistance to help farmworkers retain agricultural employment or participate in career and training programs.
In addition to employment and training services, Umos provides housing assistance under this award, including direct payments for emergency and temporary housing and indirect assistance aimed at increasing or maintaining housing stock available to farmworkers. All services are designed to strengthen participants' ability to obtain or retain unsubsidized employment, stabilize agricultural employment, and achieve economic self-sufficiency. As required under the WIOA framework, Umos will collect and report performance data to the Department of Labor on standard metrics including employment rates, earnings, measurable skill gains, and credential attainment throughout the performance period.
