Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC) received a $2.69 million Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's Division of Research on Learning in Formal and Informal Settings under the STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076), effective October 1, 2025, through September 30, 2029. The grant funds the development and delivery of educational resources and teacher professional development designed to integrate computer science and computational thinking (CS/CT) into elementary mathematics instruction for grades 2-5. The project will create instructional modules built on blocks-based programming environments (SNAP!) that embed CS/CT challenges into grade-level mathematics content, strengthening teacher capacity to deliver integrated math and computer science instruction while increasing student engagement and access to critical mathematics learning. The initiative will impact over 100 teachers and approximately 2,100 students across school district partners in four Eastern U.S. states, with an additional 192 teachers participating in comparison classrooms for research purposes. By embedding programming and computational thinking into core mathematics instruction, the project aims to ensure equitable exposure to computer science fundamentals in developmentally appropriate formats, support improved mathematics learning outcomes, and prepare students for future STEM education pathways during a critical period when computer science skills are increasingly essential to the Nation's workforce development.Federal Project Grant Award Summary
