Description

Volunteers of america michigan (voami) proposes an urban, category 1 homeless veterans reintegration program (hvrp) designed to provide meaningful and sustainable employment opportunities to veterans who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness. Voamis successful client-centered case management model successfully helps homeless veterans transition back into sustainable employment and attain self-sufficiency. Activities: the hvrp will serve the capital region of michigan, specifically serving clinton, eaton, and ingham counties. Voamis successful client-centered case management model coordinates employment, training, housing, and supportive services into a comprehensive program. Voamis veteran specific recruitment, training, and retention services successfully help homeless veterans transition back into sustainable employment. To supplement its career readiness programs, voami helps hvrp clients connect to necessary support services, such as housing, mainstream benefits, medical care, substance use treatment, and mental health services. Voami utilizes a client-centered, comprehensive service model to address homeless veterans complex service needs and return homeless veterans to meaningful employment. Based on the national veterans technical assistance center (nvtac) best practice model, voamis approach integrates job training and supportive services to promote, prepare, and improve veterans job readiness and ability to maintain employment, as well as coordinates and maximizes existing resources. To assist veterans in obtaining and sustaining employment, voami will partner with employers and the local american jobs centers for job-driven training and outreach strategies, conduct psychosocial and employment assessments, provide employment transition services and job retention planning, help veterans obtain and manage benefits, and assist veterans in finding and maintaining housing. Intended: voami s hvrp plans to target literally homeless veterans that are unemployed or underemployed. Excluding eaton and clinton counties, huds 2023 PIT counts show that there are 42 homeless veterans in the lansing, east lansing ingham county COC alone, and voamis ssvf program serving the same 3 counties enrolled 100 veteran households from 1 1 23-12 31 23. Based on these numbers, voami is confident that veteran specific employment support remains an unmet need in the capital region. Voami will enroll 35 homeless or at-risk veterans across the region, placing at least 25 participants into employment. According to the massachusetts institute of technology living wage calculator, the living wage in the lansing-east lansing area is currently $19.77 for a single adult with no children (https: livingwage.MIT.EDU metros 29620) and the medianhourly wage for all workers in michigan as of may 2022 is $21.88 https: WWW.BLS.GOV OES current OES MI.HTM#00-0000). However, this vets-704 document lists a living wage of$16.57 in all of michigan. Taking all of these datapoints into consideration, and in addition to the proposed service area covering cities smaller than lansing with lower living wages, voami will employ veterans with an average wage. Partners: voami has over 18 years of experience coordinating resources for veterans among multiple federal, state, and local agencies. *talk about some LOL?* to supplement itscareer readiness programs, voami helps hvrp clients connect to necessary support services, such as housing, mainstream benefits, medical care, substance use treatment, and mentalhealth services.
