THIS PROJECT PROMOTES AND STIMULATES EDUCATION, JOB TRAINING, DEVELOPMENT OF RESPONSIBLE CITIZENSHIP, PRODUCTIVE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT, AND FURTHERS THE UNDERSTANDING AND APPRECIATION OF NATURAL AND CULTURAL RESOURCES THROUGH THE INVOLVEMENT OF LOCAL YOUTH IN THE CARE AND ENHANCEMENT OF PUBLIC RESOURCES. THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT IS TO PROVIDE LOCAL YOUTH WITH OUTDOOR EXPERIENCES AND JOB TRAINING SKILLS THROUGH BEING MENTORED BY NPS STAFF. PARTICIPANTS WILL ENGAGE IN ACTIVITIES THAT ENHANCE VISITOR EXPERIENCES, PROTECT NATURAL AND CULTURAL RESOURCES, AND MAINTAIN INFRASTRUCTURE AT PETROGLYPH NATIONAL MONUMENT.THE RECIPIENT WILL SELECT AND OVERSEE QUALIFIED AND MOTIVATED YOUTH PARTICIPANTS TO BE MENTORED BY NPS STAFF IN MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES. PARTICIPANTS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH TRAINING AND EDUCATION ON FENCING AND TRAILS WORK. THIS WORK WILL HELP TO PROTECT THE MONUMENTS NATURAL AND CULTURAL RESOURCES AND PROVIDE FOR VISITOR USE AND ENJOYMENT. UP TO 8 YOUTH PARTICIPANTS WILL BE SELECTED FOR THIS PROGRAM AND WILL WORK CLOSELY WITH THE RECIPIENTS PROGRAM COORDINATOR, AND WITH NPS STAFF ON A DAY-TO-DAY BASIS, RECEIVING MENTORING AND SUPPORT. YOUTH PARTICIPATING IN THIS PROGRAM WILL BE COMPENSATED WITH AN HOURLY WAGE AND TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM THE MONUMENT.THE PRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF THIS TASK AGREEMENT IS TO SUPPORT THE GOVERNMENTS OBJECTIVE TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES TO YOUTH TO LEARN ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT BY SPENDING TIME WORKING ON PROJECTS IN NATIONAL PARKS. THE NPS RECEIVES THE INDIRECT BENEFIT OF COMPLETING CONSERVATION PROJECTS. THIS PROGRAM MOTIVATES ITS YOUTH PARTICIPANTS TO BECOME INVOLVED IN THE NATURAL AND CULTURAL RESOURCE PROTECTION OF THEIR COMMUNITIES AND BEYOND. YOUTH PARTICIPANTS WILL GAIN REAL WORLD OR HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE OUTSIDE OF THE CLASSROOM IN NATURAL AND CULTURAL RESOURCE PROJECTS. THIS TASK AGREEMENT CONTINUES LONGSTANDING EFFORTS FOR THE NPS TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH PUBLIC SERVICE, MINORITY YOUTH DEVELOPMENT AND JOB TRAINING, AND CONSERVATION-RELATED PROJECTS THAT ENGAGE LOCAL YOUTH. ACTIVITIES WILL RESULT IN PROVIDING A SAFE AND ENJOYABLE PUBLIC TRAILS SYSTEM TO VIEW THE MONUMENTS PETROGLYPHS, AND AN ENHANCED VISITOR EXPERIENCE. IN ADDITION, THESE ACTIVITIES WILL PROTECT RESOURCES BY ENSURING THAT THE MONUMENTS FENCING IS INTACT AND EFFECTIVE.
