Description
This project promotes and stimulates education, job training, development of responsible citizenship, productive community involvement, and furthers the understanding and appreciation of natural and cultural resources through the involvement of youth in the care and enhancement of public resources. The goal of this project is to provide youth with outdoor experiences and job training skills through being mentored by NPS staff in vegetation and maintenance projects. Participants will engage in activities that enhance visitor experiences, protect natural and cultural resources, and maintain infrastructure at petroglyph national monument. The recipient will select and oversee qualified and motivated participants to be mentored by NPS staff in performing vegetation management and fence maintenance repairs at petroglyph national monument (petr or monument). Participants will be provided with training and education throughout the project. This work will help to protect the monuments natural and cultural resources and provide for visitor use and enjoyment. Participants selected for this project will work closely with the recipients team leaders and NPS staff on a day-to-day basis, receiving mentoring and support. The principal purpose of this task agreement is to support the governments objective to provide opportunities to youth to learn about the environment by spending time working on projects in national parks. The NPS receives the indirect benefit of completing conservation projects. This program motivates its youth participants to become involved in the natural and cultural resource protection of their communities and beyond. Youth participants will gain real world or hands-on experience outside of the classroom in natural and cultural resource projects. This task agreement continues longstanding efforts for the NPS to provide opportunities for youth public service and development and job training. This program serves the public by maintaining the integrity of the monuments interior and boundary fence lines that protect the unparalleled archaeological resources within the monument. Project work will also include vegetation management activities along the monuments fence lines and elsewhere. Ensuring the integrity of the monuments fencing, caring for the grounds, and conducting preventative maintenance activities on fence lines provides the public with an aesthetically pleasing and safe environment in which they can better enjoy the monument.
