About the company
Huntington Beach Wetlands Conservancy is a nonprofit organization founded in 1985 with the goal to acquire, restore, and protect the coastal wetlands of southeast Huntington Beach. It has participated in federal grant programs by providing monitoring, research, and habitat enhancement services related to endangered species and ecosystems in the Huntington Beach area.
Through prime federal cooperative agreements, Huntington Beach Wetlands Conservancy has conducted monitoring and population surveys for the California Least Tern, Western Snowy Plover, and Light-Footed Ridgway's Rail at the Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach and Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge, funded by the Department of the Navy. It has also carried out habitat enhancement efforts to recover the endangered Salt Marsh Bird's Beak plant species through a cooperative agreement with the Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service. Additionally, as a sub-recipient of a federal grant awarded to the State Coastal Conservancy, Huntington Beach Wetlands Conservancy acquired and completed a restoration plan for the 44.3-acre Newland Marsh property, part of the larger Huntington Beach Wetlands complex. This included developing a public access plan with a trail connection to the adjacent Magnolia Marsh area.
