About this program

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention under the Department of Health and Human Services administers this program (CFDA 93.373) to fund organizations that provide support services to young breast cancer survivors and metastatic breast cancer patients, with the most recent visible activity being a Letter of Intent deadline around June 3, 2019.

No recent grant awards or current grant opportunities appear in the available source material. The program description dates to 2019, and no portfolio block with award history, dollar totals, assistance-type distribution, or post-2019 funding activity is present in the source. Based on the historical record alone, this program appears inactive or dormant as of the current date.

When active, the program funded organizations—including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, private colleges and universities, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, for-profit entities, and small businesses—that deliver direct services and support to young breast cancer survivors and their families and to metastatic breast cancer patients. Funded activities align with four core goals: increasing caregiver and family support for these populations, raising awareness of clinical trials among affected individuals, providing financial assistance, and improving quality of life. The program prioritized serving underserved and underrepresented populations and explicitly incorporated metastatic breast cancer survivors in addition to young survivors.

Applications underwent three-phase review: CDC staff screened for completeness and eligibility, a review panel evaluated eligible applications on approach, evaluation and performance measurement, and organizational capacity to implement, and CDC funded applications in score order. Applicants were required to complete a risk questionnaire.

Given the 2019 date of the most recent solicitation milestone and the absence of any post-2019 grant awards or opportunities in the source, prospective applicants should verify current program status with CDC before investing in application development. The program may have been replaced, consolidated, or suspended.

Objective and description

Objective

Goals resulting from providing support to young breast cancer survivors and metastatic breast cancer patients include: increased support for caregivers and families for these individuals, increased awareness of clinical trials by both young women diagnosed with cancer and individuals diagnosed with metastic breast cancer, increased financial support, and improved quality of life among young breast cancer survivors.

Description

The purpose of the proposed program is to increase the availability of services/support for Young Breast Cancer Survivors (YBCS) and their families by supporting organizations and entities that serve this population. By providing support to organizations that serve this community, the program will provide support to underserved, underpresented populations and ensure that services and programs exist for young breast cancer survivors and metastatic breast cancer survivors. The program will use innovative approaches to provide these services and will offer support to metastatic breast cancer survivors due to organizational capacity and reach.
