About this program

The Department of Education Office of Career Technical and Adult Education administers Tech-Prep Education (CFDA 84.243), which funds consortia of local agencies and postsecondary institutions to develop and operate integrated secondary and postsecondary programs leading to associate degrees or two-year certificates, with the most recent grant award dated July 1, 2010.

This program has not been active in awarding new grants for over 16 years. The portfolio reflects historical grant activity: 521 total awards dating back to July 2000, with a consistent cadence of approximately 51–52 awards per year through 2010. Combined federal dollars obligated totaled $1.05 billion across the entire portfolio. No recent grant opportunities are posted in the source material.

The program funded the last two years of secondary education integrated with at least two years of postsecondary education, designed to strengthen articulation between secondary and postsecondary institutions and provide structured technical career pathways to students. Eligible recipients were state agencies, which then distributed funds to consortia.

All 521 awards were Formula Grants distributed by the Department of Education Office of Career Technical and Adult Education, representing the sole funding source under this Assistance Listing. Award magnitudes varied significantly across recipients. Recent awards from the 2010 cycle ranged from approximately $134 thousand to $11.2 million, with most falling between $700 thousand and $4 million. Representative 2010 awards include grants of $11.25 million, $8.39 million, and $4.95 million to state recipients, and awards of $218 thousand, $220 thousand, and $233 thousand to smaller recipients.

Do not pursue this program. It has not awarded new grants since 2010 and shows no indication of reactivation.
