About this program

The Environmental Protection Agency is funding training development for pesticide registrants under the Pesticide Registration Improvement Act (PRIA), CFDA 66.722, with the next application deadline of March 31, 2026.

This program supports employee and stakeholder training initiatives designed to improve EPA's pesticide registration and review processes in compliance with PRIA statutory timeframes. The program's core objective is to enhance EPA customer service by producing clear communications and improved regulatory procedures that result in more complete applications and shorter processing times. Training development encompasses pesticide registrant education on regulatory procedures, agricultural focus area identification for crop tours, skill-building aligned with EPA's mission, best-practice promotion, and stakeholder education on registration procedures.

The program operates as a predominantly cooperative-agreement vehicle, as evidenced by the current open solicitation. The Environmental Protection Agency is the sole funding agency under this listing. Award timelines extend approximately 180 days from application receipt through selection, notification, work plan development and approval, and fund disbursement for competitive awards.

The most recent grant opportunity, solicitation EPA-HQ-OCSPP-OPP-2025-001 (PRIA 5 Training Development), posted January 30, 2026, and closes March 31, 2026. Eligibility is limited to land grant colleges and universities, non-land grant colleges of agriculture, and 1994 Institutions. The agency will provide details on pre-application assistance and evaluation criteria in the Notice of Funding Opportunity. EPA conducts administrative and technical reviews of non-competitive applications and competitive evaluations in accordance with published criteria. Recipients must maintain financial records and supporting documentation for three years following submission of final expenditure reports, with extended retention required if audit questions remain unresolved.
