About this program

The Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration funds modernization of the Commercial Drivers License Information System (CDLIS) under Assistance Listing 20.238, with the most recent grant award disbursed on September 4, 2008.

This program is dormant. Four total grants have been awarded since program inception in 2007, with activity concentrated in 2007 and 2008; no awards have been disbursed in the past eighteen years. The program funded CDLIS modernization to achieve federal IT security compliance, enable electronic information exchange including conviction posting, integrate self-auditing features for data consistency, and consolidate the commercial driver's license with medical certificate functions.

Awards were predominantly Project Grants (75 percent) with one Formula Grant (25 percent). The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration was the sole funder across all four awards, obligating $10.5 million in combined federal and total dollars. The most significant award was a $10.5 million Project Grant (DTNH2208H00189) issued September 4, 2008, with completion targeted for September 3, 2013. The remaining three awards were substantially smaller: a $17,228 Formula Grant and two Project Grants valued at $785 and $1,256 respectively, all issued in 2007–2008 with single-year completion windows.

No recent grant opportunities are posted under this Assistance Listing. The program shows no activity indicators of current operational status or near-term funding intent.
