About this opportunity

The City of Wichita is requesting bids for construction services to repair storm sewer systems at the 9th and McLean intersection under Project SWS #838, with bids due October 23, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. No pre-bid conference is scheduled; bidder questions are due one week prior to the bid opening.

The scope includes relocation of a 15-inch reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) flared end section, installation of additional 15-inch RCP, and heavy stone riprap reworking. Lump sum bid items cover mobilization, site clearing, site restoration (damaged drainage structures, utility lines, driveways, landscaping, and irrigation systems), traffic control, pipe relocation, and riprap reshaping. Two measured quantity items are 30 linear feet of 15-inch RCP pipe and 30 linear feet of sand fill. The contractor must perform field verification of all existing elevations, depths, lengths, sizes, materials, and utility locations prior to construction; develop and obtain City Traffic Engineer approval for a traffic control plan; and comply with Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices standards for all right-of-way and traffic-area work. Estimated project completion is 30 working days from work order issuance.

Minimum qualifications require three years' experience in similar construction services, current licensure by the City of Wichita or State of Kansas as applicable, and capacity to acquire required bonds and insurance. Award will be made on lowest and best total net bid from a responsible and responsive vendor.

Bidders must submit a 5% bid bond or annual bid bond prior to opening. The successful contractor must provide a 100% performance bond and a labor and material payment bond running to the State of Kansas in an amount not less than the contract total. Minimum insurance includes Commercial General Liability of $1,000,000 each occurrence / $2,000,000 aggregate, Comprehensive Automobile Liability of $1,000,000 each occurrence, Workers' Compensation per statutory requirements, and Employers Liability of $1,000,000 per accident. The City must be named as primary and non-contributory additional insured. A Certificate of Insurance is due within 10 days after award notification. Bids may not be withdrawn for 60 days following opening.

Submissions are accepted electronically through the City's procurement portal or by email to Val Falo at VFalo@wichita.gov or (316) 268-4414.
