About this opportunity

The City of Santa Cruz Public Works Department is requesting bids on the School Street Staircase Renovation project under IFB No. PW-0316, with sealed bids due July 28, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time and a non-mandatory pre-bid meeting on July 14, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. onsite. The project is located at North Pacific Avenue between 2017 and 2027 North Pacific Avenue in Downtown Santa Cruz, California, and must be completed within 45 working days from Notice to Proceed.

The scope includes repairing and sealing concrete stairs, installing cast aluminum stair nosings (Alumogrit Type 101, Wooster Products Inc. specification, with detailed requirements for thickness, fastening options, and installation timing), and performing grouting and tile work. The stairs serve as a historic transportation facility connecting the Santa Cruz Mission to the Downtown area.

All contractors and subcontractors must hold valid California contractor licenses at time of bid submittal and register with the California Department of Industrial Relations. Prevailing wages as published by the State of California are mandatory for all workers. The project is funded through the California ED IIG Parks and Paseos grant and local funding, with no federal funding involved.

The successful bidder must provide three client references demonstrating relevant experience over the past five years and maintain commercial general liability insurance of $2 million per occurrence, automobile liability of $1 million, and workers' compensation with statutory limits. Bid security of at least 10 percent of the bid amount, a performance bond of 100 percent of contract price, and a payment bond of 50 percent of contract price (if under $1 million) are required. Liquidated damages are assessed at $500 per calendar day for delays beyond contract time. Questions are due July 22, 2026 at 1:00 p.m., with responses issued by July 24.
