About this opportunity

The Town of Wethersfield, Connecticut is soliciting sealed bids for road salt and treated road salt supply for the 2026–2027 winter season, with bids due October 16, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. A local-bidder preference under town ordinance allows town-based resident bidders submitting bids no more than 10 percent higher than the lowest responsible bid to be awarded at the lowest bid amount.

The scope covers approximately 3,000 tons total annual supply: 1,000 tons of untreated sodium chloride road salt and 2,000 tons of treated road salt (sodium chloride mixed with liquid magnesium chloride or liquid calcium chloride and an organic-based performance enhancer). All road salt must meet Connecticut Department of Transportation specifications for sodium chloride quality. Bidders must submit written certification from their salt supplier confirming access to sufficient quantities. Delivery terms require routine delivery within 72 hours of request during standard business hours (Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m.) and emergency delivery within 24 hours. The Town's storage capacity is 1,200 tons. All prices must be delivered prices including discounts, and pricing remains firm from October 16, 2026 through June 30, 2027. Late delivery incurs a 1 percent discount per ton for each day late.

The contract term extends through June 30, 2027 with no renewal options. Bidders must submit two hard copies and one electronic copy to the Finance Office, Wethersfield Town Hall, 505 Silas Deane Highway. Bid proposal specification packages are available for download beginning October 1, 2026 on the Town's website. Required submissions include proof of insurance (workers' compensation, general liability and auto liability each with $1,000,000 limits), non-collusive affidavit, fair employment practices questionnaire, local bidder affidavit if applicable, and an affidavit certifying no natural gas or oil waste from extraction activities will be used. The Town reserves the right to reject any and all bids, award to the lowest responsible bidder, or award multiple contracts.
