About this opportunity
The University of Washington is requesting sealed bids for full modernization of nine electric traction passenger elevators at UW Tower in Seattle, with bids due July 28, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. and a pre-bid site meeting scheduled for July 14, 2026 at 7:30 a.m. The project scope spans one 23-stop gearless overhead traction elevator, five 20-stop gearless overhead traction elevators serving the high-rise tower, and three 5-stop geared overhead traction elevators serving other buildings in the complex, plus associated electrical and mechanical improvements to bring power, lighting, and machine room temperature control to current code requirements, new pit ladders for four elevators, and temporary hoistway openings for equipment installation.
The University has established an aspirational goal of 20 percent Business Equity Enterprise (BEE) utilization, inclusive of 15 percent minority and women-owned business participation. Mandatory apprentice utilization of at least 15 percent of total labor hours is required, with monetary incentives for exceeding and penalties for failing to meet this threshold. All bids must comply with Washington State prevailing wage requirements and contractor registration, including current UBI number, workers' compensation coverage, and employment security numbers.
The architect's estimate is $7.385 million. Award will be to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder. Bidders must provide a bid guarantee of at least 5 percent of the base bid in the form of a surety bond or cash equivalent. Part II of the bid form, containing subcontractor information for structural steel and rebar installation, must be submitted within 48 hours of the bid deadline. Prior to contract execution, the successful bidder must submit payment and performance bonds for 100 percent of the contract award amount plus sales tax and evidence of required insurance with minimum coverage limits of $1 million general liability per occurrence and $2 million aggregate. Bidders must register with Workday Strategic Sourcing to download documents and submit bids. Public bid opening via Zoom is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. on July 28.
