About this opportunity

The City of Boston Fire Department is requesting bids for one new one-ton pickup truck under IFB Event EV00017928, with bids due September 23, 2026 at 12:00 PM and delivery by September 28. The vehicle must be single rear wheel, four-wheel drive, latest production model, and comply with all federal and state motor vehicle regulations and safety standards — a capability gate that includes mandatory compliance with the City of Boston Truck Side Guard Ordinance, which requires installation of side guards (mounted 21.5 inches maximum above ground and no more than 14 inches below vehicle structure), convex mirrors, cross-over mirrors, and safety decals at a typical cost of $1,200 per truck in the Boston pilot program.

The technical specification requires a 6.6 turbo diesel V8 engine with block heater, Heavy Duty Allison 1000 electronically controlled six-speed automatic transmission, crew cab with short bed painted Red Hot, and integrated Whelen LED warning systems with a Motorola APX 8500 dual band mobile radio. The vehicle must arrive complete, serviced, and ready to operate with current Massachusetts inspection and license plates. Delivery must be coordinated with the Fire Department; unscheduled arrivals will not be accepted.

The manufacturer must provide a minimum three-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and five-year/100,000-mile drivetrain and roadside assistance warranty. The contractor warrants all allied equipment for two years and must furnish in-house warranty and factory recall services through certified technicians, with labor and parts rates bid separately. Training on all vehicle systems and necessary tooling and supplies are required.

The contract term is one year. Bids must be submitted on a firm-price basis. The award is contingent on Mayor approval and fund availability. Contact Chris Radcliffe at 617-635-3422 or Christopher.Radcliffe@boston.gov with questions.
