About this opportunity

The City of Boise Public Works Department is soliciting bids for specialized High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) materials and fittings for geothermal system infrastructure replacement under SFB2026-091, with bids due September 30, 2026. The scope is PlatinumStripe 1800 Series PE-RT High Temperature, DR-11 HDPE pipe and fittings or equivalent materials for mainline replacement on 1st Street between Jefferson and State Street in Boise's geothermal heating district.

Boise operates the largest geothermal heating district in the United States, serving approximately 90 downtown buildings totaling over 6 million square feet through a two-pipe, direct-bury, closed-loop system. The system operates with supply water at 177°F pumped at 50–70 psi and return water at 90–170°F at 30–40 psi. Pipe diameters range from 1 inch to 20 inches; supply lines are insulated and collection lines uninsulated.

The specified PlatinumStripe 1800 PE-RT pipe complies with ASTM standards D3350, D2837, F2619, F714, D3261, D2513, F2206 and API 15 LE, with a hydrostatic design basis of 800 psi at 180°F. The pipe maintains continuous operating capability from −49°F to 180°F and intermittent operation up to 203°F. At 180°F operating temperature, DR-11 rated pipe provides 100 psi design pressure for water and brine applications. All hardware must be stainless steel 316, all gaskets full-face EPDM, and insulated pipe must be Polycor Platinum by Thermacore or approved equivalent. The specified pipe is identified by four platinum color stripes and offers superior stress crack resistance approximately 20 times greater than standard PE4710 products.
