About this opportunity

The City of Park Ridge, Illinois is requesting proposals for architectural and engineering design services for Fire Station 36, a 1970-constructed facility at 1000 N. Greenwood Avenue, with proposals due November 5, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. and a mandatory facility tour on October 14, 2026 at 9:00 a.m.

The scope requires comprehensive design and construction documents for renovation, expansion, partial demolition, or complete replacement of the station. The design must incorporate modern fire station principles including firefighter health and safety, cancer-prevention practices through clean/warm/dirty zone separation, appropriate apparatus and operational areas, administrative offices, living and support spaces, a training tower, and a dedicated or appropriately designed training and Emergency Operations Center. The facility currently houses six to ten sworn firefighters and administrative staff and must remain operational throughout construction; proposers must include a plan or multiple options for continuity of operations, which may include phased construction, temporary facilities, or temporary living quarters on the property. The design shall address current and future operational needs and be designed for a 50-year service life. A 2021 facility study and master planning concepts delivered to the City may serve as a basis for design development.

The contract term is one year following City Council approval and execution by the City Manager. Evaluation weighting is firm qualifications and experience (10%), comparable project experience and references (20%), project understanding and technical approach (30%), approach to continuity of Fire Department operations (20%), and total cost (20%). The selected firm will prepare construction documents and, if the City proceeds, oversee construction and provide as-built drawings. Professional liability insurance of $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate and commercial general liability of $2,000,000 general aggregate and $1,000,000 each occurrence are required. Questions must be submitted by October 16, 2026 at 5:00 p.m., with final answers posted by October 21, 2026. Award is anticipated for December 2026.

Opportunity text

The Project shall incorporate modern fire station design principles, including firefighter health and safety and current cancer-prevention practices through appropriate separation of clean, warm, and dirty zones and the proper handling, storage, cleaning, and decontamination of personnel and equipment. The design shall address the current and future operational needs of the Fire Department and shall include, at a minimum, appropriate apparatus and operational areas, administrative offices, firefighter living and support spaces, a training tower, and a dedicated or appropriately designed training and Emergency Operations Center. It is vital to the Project that the Fire Department remain capable of providing uninterrupted emergency services from this location throughout the entirety of the renovation, expansion, and/or replacement project. Firms shall therefore include in their proposal a plan, or multiple plan options, for continuity of operations during construction, which may include phased construction, temporary facilities, and/or temporary living quarters located on the property. The Station study performed by an outside consultant and delivered to the City in February 2021, including the facility master planning concepts identified therein, may be used as a basis for development and design of the Project.
