About this opportunity
The City of Detroit Office of Contracting & Procurement is requesting sealed bids for emergency residential demolition services at 8532 Bryden under RFQ 186791, with questions due August 12, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. EST and proposals due the same day at 10:00 a.m. EST. Contractors must be pre-qualified and must visit the site and submit dated photographs with their bid.
The property is a one-story brick single-family dwelling that suffered significant fire damage on July 29, 2026, resulting in roof collapse, loss of interior framing integrity, and ceiling collapse. The scope of work spans pre-demolition activities including utility disconnection verification and hazard notifications; active demolition with two functioning hoses and misting nozzles for dust control; debris removal and proper disposal at licensed Type II landfills; backfill and grading operations using Category 2 backfill materials from City-approved sources; and final site restoration including sidewalk replacement and seeding. Contractors must complete demarcation and signage within one calendar day of Notice to Proceed, execute demolition within three calendar days, complete backfill and grading within fourteen calendar days of Open Hole Approval, and request pour inspection within thirty calendar days of Winter or Final Grade Approval. All work must comply with OSHA regulations and Michigan Part 201 Residential Cleanup Criteria. Field supervisors must hold OSHA Lead Awareness Training; at least one operator or laborer per site must hold asbestos awareness credentials. Contractors assume liability for all damage to surrounding properties, infrastructure, and utilities and must correct errors or hazardous conditions at no additional cost.
Evaluation is by price only. Bidders must submit pre-qualification documentation including Combined Certificates of Authority, tax and receivables clearance evidence, signature page with authorized agent name, completed price and rate sheets in Excel format, current standard documents, Affidavit of Disclosure of Demolition Contractors, and SmartSheet survey completion. The City will not reimburse permit costs; contractors are responsible for a $134.00 hydrant re-inspection fee if a hydrant fails. Upon receipt of BSEED Open Hole Approval, the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department will inspect and remove lead service lines if present, a process expected to pause work for up to five business days. Sub-contractors are permitted with required documentation submission.
