About this opportunity

The City of Wichita, Kansas is soliciting bids on comprehensive elevator and vertical-transportation maintenance for 29 groups of equipment across municipal facilities, with sealed electronic bids due October 16, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Central Time under RFB #260246. The contractor must maintain an established local facility within 30-minute travel time of Wichita and demonstrate a minimum of three years' experience maintaining comparable elevator equipment — a capability filter tied to geographic proximity and prior performance.

The scope covers preventive maintenance, safety inspections, parts replacement, emergency call-back response, and repair for elevators, dumbwaiters, escalators, and similar vertical-transportation equipment at City Hall, libraries, parking garages, water treatment plants, airport terminals, recreation centers, and other municipal facilities. Equipment and areas must be kept clean, in good working condition, adjusted and functioning as designed through regularly scheduled maintenance tasks and component replacement. Bidders must submit pricing for all 29 groups plus six hourly rate options (mechanic and crew rates for normal business hours, after-business hours, and holidays) as line items without additional miscellaneous charges. The contractor must furnish all materials and labor, maintain an inventory of replacement parts, and comply with ANSI A17.1 safety codes. Annual cost adjustments are based on 80% labor costs and 20% Producer Price Index changes.

The contract term is one year with four optional one-year renewals by mutual agreement. Commercial General Liability insurance with minimum limits of $1 million per occurrence and $2 million annual aggregate, plus Comprehensive Automobile Liability and Workers' Compensation coverage, is required prior to execution. Liquidated damages of $250 per 24-hour period apply for service failures exceeding 48 hours due to contractor neglect. Questions are due October 8, 2026 at 3:00 p.m., with written responses provided via addendum during the week of October 12. City Council approval is tentatively scheduled for October 27, 2026. Award will be based on lowest and best total net bid for all groups and options as presented to a single responsible and responsive vendor.
