About this opportunity
The Town of Wellesley, Massachusetts is requesting sealed bids for the complete demolition of a 1,300 square-foot, one-story wood-frame residential building at 3 Bacon Street, with bids due September 9, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. A pre-bid site visit is scheduled for August 17, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the project location.
The scope includes removal of the entire structure — a five-room dwelling with two bedrooms, one bathroom, full basement, approximately 180 square-foot enclosed frame porch, approximately 441 square-foot frame garage, and approximately 39 square-foot open porch situated on a 23,600 square-foot lot. The contractor must remove all materials and debris, backfill the foundation cavity with clean gravel, and leave the site level and properly graded. Existing foundation walls and floor slab remain. The contractor is responsible for obtaining necessary permits and licenses (excluding those the Town waives or pays), providing dust control and silt fencing to protect the wetland and Morses Pond, constructing temporary perimeter fencing, notifying adjacent properties within 300 feet, and conducting a thorough building search prior to demolition. The Town will handle hazardous material abatement, utility disconnections and capping, and required fire watch.
The estimated project value is $50,000. Work must begin in or around October 1, 2026 and be completed by October 30, 2026, with all work conducted between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Liquidated damages of $500 per day apply if the project is not completed by the deadline. The project is subject to Massachusetts prevailing wage rates under M.G.L. Chapter 149, Sections 26–27D.
Bid security of 5% of the total bid price in the form of a certified check or bid bond is required. A payment bond equal to 50% of the total contract price with a surety company licensed in Massachusetts is required before contract execution. No bidder may withdraw their bid for 30 days after opening. Awards are made to the lowest responsible and eligible bidder.
