About this opportunity

The Michigan Department of Transportation is requesting proposals for bridge deck repairs at the I-75/I-69 interchange in Genesee County, with proposals due August 11, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time and questions due August 5, 2026.

Bidders must be currently MDOT Prequalified Contractors in category N9-1A (Fa) Bridge Deck Repair and registered with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity as State Project Contractors — a mandatory qualification filter. Prevailing wage requirements apply to all mechanics and laborers on site per Genesee County rates effective February 13, 2024.

The scope encompasses deep hand chipping (255 square yards total across three bridge structures) and concrete patching (25 cubic yards total) at three locations: I-75 Ramps H & M over I-69 Ramp L (SN 2556), I-75 Ramps H & M over Swartz Creek (SN 2520), and westbound I-69 Ramps H & F over Ballenger Road (SN 2550). Work includes traffic control and maintenance using fluorescent drums, Type III lighted barricades, arrow boards, portable changeable message signs, temporary prismatic signage, and mobile attenuators in accordance with MDOT 2020 Standard Specifications for Construction. The contractor must develop an Internal Traffic Control Plan (Type A) for Engineer approval and comply with lane-closure restrictions on I-69 westbound (maximum 0.75 miles), with prohibitions during Labor Day 2026 and the Bikes on the Bricks event. Traffic control costs are borne entirely by the contractor; traffic switch operations are exempt from lane rental and liquidated damage assessments for eight hours per switch.

The contract runs from approximately August 24 through September 30, 2026, with an anticipated work completion deadline of September 15, 2026. Pricing is firm for the entire contract length and evaluated on a pass/fail basis. Contractors must perform at least 35% of contract work using their own organization, with subcontractors also requiring MDOT prequalification and LEO registration. Performance and lien bonds, each for not less than 100% of total contract price, are required. Payment terms are Net 45 Days via Electronic Funds Transfer. A preconstruction meeting may be required after award at a time and location determined by the MDOT Program Manager.
